DRIVER Tony Stickley was caught in a Ford Sierra that had two flat tyres and the front bumper hanging off, after police were called to a crash in Devizes, town magistrates heard on Tuesday.

The 18-year-old from Brickley Lane, Devizes, pleaded guilty to driving a car in a dangerous condition and while under the influence of alcohol in the early hours of October 2.

He also admitted having no insurance for the car and driving on a provisional licence when not accompanied by a qualified driver.

Stickley gave a positive roadside breath test and at the police station registered a breath level of 75 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Stickley, who was unrepresented in court, said he couldn't remember getting into the car or having a crash. The vehicle will now be scrapped.

He was banned from driving for 21 months, though he accepted the offer of a drink-driver's rehabilitation course, which, if completed, will reduce the ban to 16 months. He was fined £100 and his licence endorsed with six penalty points for having no insurance and fined £100 for driving the car while it was in an unfit condition.
