THE closure of a sub post office could have a disastrous impact on services at the main post office at Sainsbury's in the centre of Devizes, a postal watchdog has warned.
David Hide, chairman of the Wiltshire branch of Postwatch, visited the Eastleigh Road One Stop shop on Tuesday to canvass the opinion of shoppers who will lose their post office when Tesco closes the store at the end of the month to relaunch it as a Tesco Express store.
Mr Hide said: "We have already been along to the main post office and the manager is concerned how his staff, who are already extremely busy, will cope with the extra business that will come from users of the Eastleigh Road shop."
Mr Hide was accompanied by Jennifer Coates, a WI member from Stert, who uses Eastleigh Road post office. She said was concerned the closure would put more pressure on staff at the main post office and cause more traffic congestion.
