ALL three major political parties have fielded candidates for the forthcoming by-election for the Ogbourne ward of Kennet District Council.
The vacancy resulted from the death of long-serving independent councillor Patricia Courtman.
The by-election will be held on October 28 with polling stations at Ogbourne St George (for electors from the Ogbournes); Mildenhall Village Hall and at the Kennet Valley Hall (for electors from Fyfield and Preshute).
Two of the candidates are new to local elections in Wiltshire, Liberal Democrat Debra Davis and Conservative David Hunter.
Frank Jeffrey, Labour, stood as Parliamentary candidate for the Devizes seat in 1977 and has contested local seats. He wants more affordable homes made available and better public transport.
Debra Davis is a former Canadian diplomat and runs a business in Marlborough. She moved to the town in 2003 and said she will champion local issues, especially road safety and better recycling.
David Hunter owns Frees the undertakers and Pinks florists in Marlborough and is a member of a local family. He lives in Mildenhall and wants to see the rural way of life maintained in a modern world.
