Bassett travelled to Witney to avenge their 45-0 defeat of last season and came very close to achieving this.

In the first half Witney used the full width of the pitch to run in three tries close to the corner flags before Bassett were able to respond through Oli Stavrakakis, who touched down under the posts and kicked the conversion.

Witney came back and scored two more tries before the whistle to post a half time score of 25-7.

The second half was all Bassett's and they seemed to break through Witney's defence at will. Kenny Matthews took his usual place on the score sheet with two quick tries, the second of which Stavrakakis converted.

Bassett's Mike Ainsworth then ran in his first try of the season after he picked the ball up in his own half, leaving the Witney defence standing. Stavrakakis duly converted. This put Bassett ahead by one point however Witney came back to score a converted try in the dying moments of the game to steal the win.

Although Bassett were clearly under pressure in the first half they responded well and Joe Gill was again awesome in defence.
