A DRIVER from Melksham who has not visited London for more than 50 years was stunned when he was issued with a fine for driving in one of the capital's bus lanes.
Ken Arlett, of Dorset Crescent, received a letter informing him he was being charged £50 for driving in a bus lane in Tottenham.
Mr Arlett, 79, said: "My son told them I was nearly 80 and there was no way I was in London."
The fine, which rises to £100 if not paid within 14 days, was issued by Haringey Borough Council.
A spokesman for Haringey Council admitted there were potential flaws with the system and confirmed the matter was being looked into.
"Our parking people are investigating this and will contact Mr Arlett shortly," he said.
It is not the first time Mr Arlett has been the victim of a penalty charge error 15 years ago he received a ticket for parking illegally in Soho, despite having been in Birmingham at the time.
Mr Arlett, who said he travels to either Bristol or Swindon because of the expense of London, said: "I think 1949 or 1950 was the last time I have ever been in London. And even then it was on the train."
