THE Wiltshire Youth Offending Team is looking for volunteers to help support children who get into trouble with the law.
The team is looking to recruit more adults who enjoy working with youngsters in challenging circumstances.
Volunteers for the Appropriate Adult Scheme are needed to sit in with children during police interviews, where the parent or guardian cannot attend.
Volunteers do not provide any legal advice but act in the youngsters' best interests and check they understand any questions asked.
Referral order project manager Griff Daniels said: "Under the law a young person under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult if they are to be interviewed by the police.
"Volunteers tell us when they are available to help and we draw up a rota based on their availability. All volunteers are given training and support.
"Although this type of work is very challenging, many volunteers find it can be very rewarding to provide help and support to young people who are facing difficulties."
