TOWN councillors in Bradford on Avon have recommended refusing plans to build houses on two sites in the town centre, amid claims the town is fighting for its commercial life.
Planning applications for developments on the Saxon Garage site on New Road and land north east of the recreation ground on Frome Road have both been recommended for refusal by Bradford on Avon Town Council, who say the sites should be used for commercial purposes to open up new employment opportunities in the town.
Woodstock Homes want to build seven homes and flats on the Saxon Garage site and Donovan Homes hope to build 22 live/work units on the Frome Road site.
Gerald Milward-Oliver, chairman of the town's Development Trust, said: "Unless the planners and the district council are robust in their insistence that developers stick to the District Plan policy, then we can say goodbye to any hope of Bradford on Avon maintaining a strong working environment."
Final decisions will be made by West Wiltshire District Council.
