THERE are high hopes the opening of a big name retail store in Trowbridge could encourage other national chain stores to the town.
Monsoon was officially opened in Fore Street by town mayor Grace Hill on Wednesday morning.
Area manager Anna Harris said: "It has been a fabulous morning and we have had a great response.
"We have recently ventured into towns like Trowbridge and we have had great success. It has almost given other retailers confidence to come into these towns as well."
The store was packed all day as shoppers rushed to see the latest lines in fashion for women and children.
Monsoon also owns the Accessorize chain and part of the Trowbridge store is dedicated to these products.
The business was founded in 1972 and the first store opened in London the following year.
There are now over 300 Monsoon and Accessorize stores in the UK and Republic of Ireland, as well as many more across the rest of the world.
