WITH Bonfire Night just around the corner, people are being asked to spare a thought for guide dogs.
Every year many of the specially trained dogs are forced to retire after being traumatised by fireworks.
Now The Guide Dogs For The Blind Association is urging people to consider the needs of the blind.
A spokesman said: "We're not killjoys and want people to have the freedom to enjoy fireworks.
"But at the same time we want to encourage people to think about the loss of independence faced by the blind and partially-sighted people if their guide dogs are traumatised by the loud bangs."
Under new laws it is an offence to:
Let fireworks off between 11pm and 7am. This will be extended to midnight for November 5.
Sell fireworks that are louder than 120 decibels
Possess fireworks in a public place if you are under 18
