LOCAL clubs enjoyed mixed fortunes in the second round of the Denny Cup, the national inter-club championship.
Westlecot cruised to a very comfortable 113-52 victory over Nailsea but local rivals Thamesdown crashed out of the competition losing 86-72 to Clarrie Dunbar (Frome).
Elsewhere in the area, North Wilts lost to Bromsgrove while Fairford lost to Yate. The only winners were Christie Miller (Melksham) who overcame Malvern Hills.
Thamesdown, who have lost a couple of their top players this season, won both of their away rinks but capitulated at home against Clarrie Dunbar.
They were always struggling at the Oasis Leisure Centre as Maurice Stow trailed Graham Shadwell, Wiltshire's outdoor England international 15-3 after only 10 ends and finally went down by 23 shots.
And on the other rink, Arthur Baker was 14-6 down at 10 and eventually lost by 14 shots.
Therefore, away in Frome, Malcolm Curtis' big 24-shot win and the sterling one-shot success by Ray Ford were to no avail.
