A TRADITIONAL bonfire built by firefighters and situated next to a fire station has been scrapped.
The move has been taken because it is believed it could breach health and safety regulations.
The Guy Fawkes Night celebration in Coleshill, Warwickshire, fell foul of new legislation that requires public bonfires to be cordoned off and properly monitored 24 hours a day.
The axe has fallen on the November 6 event because Coleshill fire station, on Park Road, is only open during the day.
As such it was felt it could not provide the security needed to ensure the bonfire was not tampered with.
Instead, the festivities in Memorial Park, which is behind the fire station.
