AN ACTION plan for ridding the town centre of drink-fuelled violence and disorder is to be debated.
Swindon Council's licensing sub-committee has to adopt a formal strategy on the issue.
A draft policy says the authority is committed to creating a vibrant night-time economy free of trouble.
But it recognises the concentration of bars and nightclubs in the Fleet Street-John Street area is a problem.
It speaks of the need to prevent the area turning into a 'youth ghetto' and says attracting diverse age groups is of key importance.
Improving CCTV is also flagged up. The council says action is urgently needed.
Its licensing officer Lionel Starling recently said the town centre was in danger of becoming a 'no-go zone' for the over 30s because of its binge drinking culture.
The meeting which is open to the public starts at 5.30pm on Monday, November 1 at the Civic Offices.
