One-nil to the Whites. Craig Davis turns to celebrate after scoring what proved to be the winner against Billericay Town. 28/10/04ALTHOUGH Salisbury City will kick off Sunday's FA Cup tie at Slough Town knowing their destiny should they defeat their Ryman League colleagues, acting manager Barry Blankley will ensure they are fully focussed solely on one game.
"The Slough game will be like the one at Weston Super Mare in the last round. It'll come down to who wants it most on the day," said Blankley.
"Even though the draw is made the night before, our lads won't be complacent. They'll know they've still got a job to do."
At stake is a place in the First Round proper of the world's most famous club competition for the second year running.
The drama of the draw, that last year paired Whites with Sheffield Wednesday, will be played out on TV live on Saturday afternoon after the day's ties are completed.
The prospect of another mouth-watering match against League One or Two giants, would surely act as a further incentive for City's players, but Blankley insists his players will already be up for the tie which kicks off at 2pm.
"I don't really mind who we play as long as we're in it.
"Those players who were here last season had a little taste of it and they shouldn't need motivating."
Slough play their fixtures at Windsor & Eton's Stag Meadow ground, but as their landlords are at home in the league on Saturday and their game took priority, the cup tie had to be put back a day to Hallowe'en.
However, Blankley, who celebrated his 40th birthday this week, is hopeful his players won't give the club's fans a fright with a repeat of the nightmare display that proved their undoing against Sunday's opponents who won their league clash back in August.
"A win on Sunday would be the best birthday present they could give me," he said.
A £10,000 cheque will be banked by Sunday's victors from the FA's prize fund with the prospect of much more to follow if Saturday's draw proves favourable.
Blankley's side will be full of confidence after picking up three valuable points on Saturday thanks to a 1-0 win at home to Billericay Town.
Craig Davis' third goal in two games secured City's first league win since September 11.
Unfortunately, Blankley, recently appointed as Nick Holmes' assistant while the City manager attends to business commitments in Florida, will miss Sunday's tie due to a previous engagement which he cannot break.
"I told Nev (Beal) and Nick when I took the job that there were a couple of dates I'd struggle to make. This is one of them. But I'll be hanging on the phone somehow to find out how they're getting on."
The Whites won't be leaderless on Sunday, however, as Holmes is due to arrive back in the UK in time to see his charges back on the FA Cup trail.
City will be without the suspended Leigh Phillips and Matt Holmes but Adam Wallace, Steve Strong and Scott Bartlett are all back in contention.
Should Sunday's tie end in a draw, a replay would take place at Old Sarum on Wednesday.
The First Round draw will be screened live on BBC1 on Saturday at approximately 5.05pm.
