A WELCOME sign has caused unwelcome disagreement between two councils.
Wootton Bassett Council put up a sign welcoming visitors to the town on the Malmesbury Road but Lydiard Tregoze Parish Council says the sign is in its parish.
The sign is on the left-hand side of the road and the parish boundary runs along the centre of the road.
Lydiard Tregoze Parish Council clerk Avril Roe said: "It was installed without a by-your-leave from Wootton Bassett Town Council.
"We wrote and respectfully asked them to remove it but it's still there. We haven't heard officially what they're going to do but we want them to move it."
Coun Chris Wannell, of Wootton Bassett, said: "Our town clerk wrote a letter of apology and I went to a meeting of their parish council.
"I was asked if our council would pull the sign down and I said I didn't think Wootton Bassett Town Council would be willing to remove the sign but it's not up to me."
Wootton Bassett Town Council is due to discuss the issue at tomorrow's council meeting.
