14450/2GAZETTE & HERALD: CLOGS, Chippenham Light Opera Group, will be treading the boards of the Olympiad in their latest production, My Fair Lady and playing the title role of Eliza Doolittle is Sally Laurence.
She actually has had to do little for the part, because London born and bred, she took to Eliza like a duck to water.
"This role is good for me," Ms Laurence said. "It doesn't come hard. I don't have to struggle to make a character of her, she's just there. I've got London blood so I haven't struggled with the cockney accent."
Eliza Doolittle is the cockney flower girl who is taught how to be a lady, in the show.
Ms Laurence has been with CLOGS for ten years and will star with her mum, Eileen Smith, who is cast in the role of the doting but disapproving mother of Henry Higgins.
"My mum used to do musicals and theatre in London," Ms Laurence said. "She gave me the acting bug."
The multi-talented actress has been musical director for CLOGS and has been a flautist with Trowbridge Symphony Orchestra for eight years.
She said the trick to learning her lines is putting the whole play on tape, but leaving gaps where she speaks.
"I still get terribly nervous but you just go on and once you start you absorb yourself in what's going on, you forget about the audience."
The show runs from November 25 to 27 at the Olympiad Studio, Chippenham. Tickets from the Chippenham TIC on (01249) 706333.
