14492/1HOMELESS production worker Tony Andrew is angry after being refused accommodation by North Wiltshire District Council.
Mr Andrew, 40, became homeless six weeks ago when his girlfriend of seven years asked him to leave after their relationship broke down.
Mr Andrew had lived with her and their daughter at a two-bedroom housing association property in Pewsham for the past three years.
He has spent nights at friends' homes and slept in his ex-girlfriend's car, but since last Friday he has been living in a tent in a field near to where he works at Hygrade.
Mr Andrew said: "The council turned me down for housing because they say I am not a priority and not vulnerable. I think that's discrimination and I know of other single adults who have not been able to get accommodation.
"I can understand that they need to prioritise but am I not vulnerable living in a tent? It's scary and it's getting pretty chilly at night. "
A council spokesman said the main categories of priority need are households with children, households with a pregnant woman, 16 and 17-year-olds and 18 to 20-year-olds leaving care or those who are vulnerable because of old age, physical disability or mental illness."
