Wiltshire St John Ambulance has issued some first aid advice to prevent injury on bonfire night. The organisation, based in Devizes, recommends that the organisers brush up on their first aid skills and make sure they have a fully stocked first aid kit close by.
For guidance, the charity has issued some vital but simple steps for treating minor burns, including placing the burned area under running water for ten minutes or longer and not to remove anything sticking to the wound as it may cause further damage and introduce infection.
St John's said casualties should not hesitate to seek medical aid if they are concerned. A child with any kind of burn or an adult with a burn larger than the area of the palm of their hand requires medical attention.
First aid treatment for minor burns reduces the effects of heat, prevents infection, relieves pain and minimises infection. If the burns appear severe or extensive, the casualty should be taken to hospital.
