Six hotshot football prospects have been selected to represent Wiltshire at the South West round of the England Schoolboy trials this Sunday.
Biddestone defender Jack Nicholas Corsham players Scott Lye, Jamie Lyons and Richard Humphries, Bath City player Yan Klukowski and Melksham's Chris Beasley are the youngsters who will be given the chance to try out for the England U18 squad at Millfield School in Somerset.
If they are selected on Sunday they will progress to the South West side to play South East on November 14. If they gain selection from that game they will attend the full England trials at Lilleshall on December 4.
Nicholas, 17, of Coppershell, Corsham, is delighted to have been selected. He said: "This is a great privilege for me. It is a great opportunity to see what I can do."
This is the second time that Nicholas, who attends Corsham Secondary School, has been invited to the trials.
The defender was picked after Sheldon sixth form PE teacher Paul Weller nominated him. Weller runs the Wiltshire sixth form team and was asked to nominate six players from his squad to go to the trials.
The six players will be teamed up together and compete in a mini tournament against other counties. The competition is an opportunity for the coaches to have a look at the youngsters.
Nicholas said: "This is an amazing opportunity for us to put ourselves in the shop window."
Lye and Lyons have established themselves as first team players at Corsham. Nicholas is also a regular at Biddestone so it has come to no surprise to their managers that they have been picked. Biddestone manager Gary Skidmore is happy that his player has a chance to play representative football.
He said: "Football has a weird way of making the cream come to the top, it does not matter which league they play in. Jack has come on a great deal this season so I am not shocked that he has been asked to go again.
"Jack is very ambitious and a consistent player and is a definite starter for Biddestone at the age of just 17."
Skidmore thinks that Nicholas' selection is a good endorsement of the club. He said: "We don't have much of a budget here so we have to pull youngsters through from the local community. When they get chosen for big trials it proves that we have quality youngsters at Biddestone.
"I will be delighted if we took some hand in pushing the young players up to another level."
Winger Lye, 18, did not expect to be picked. He said: "When Paul rang me I was in shock. I'm getting very excited about going. "
Lye, from Rudloe, knows that it will not be an easy day. He said: "There will be a lot of footballers there, this is a national trial. I know that it will be extremely difficult to get selected for the schoolboy team.
"It does show that there are talented lads in Wiltshire. I hope it goes well for all of us."
Manager of Corsham, Colin Bush thinks that the players are a credit to his team. He said: "It is brilliant for them and I hope they will enjoy their day. I wish them all the success and we will be waiting anxiously to see how they get on."
Midfielder Lyons, 17, from Kings Avenue, Chippenham, is hoping the trials will help boost his career in football as he plans to win a scholarship in the USA.
He said: "On Wednesday I went to a trial for run by a football agency. We had an assessment performed on us and they send the results to lots of teams in America.
"Having the England School Boy trials on my CV will help my application.
"I would like to do a scholarship in English literature. I am doing A Level literature. It is probably my strongest subject at school, my favourite book that we have studied is probably Enduring Love by Ian McEwan."
