GAZETTE & HERALD: A family from Calne was given a tour around Wiltshire Police Headquarters as part of an auction of promises held by Cherhill School.
Jeremy and Teresa Harding took Shona, nine, and Marc, five, for the guided tour in Devizes.
They visited various departments including the Air Support Unit, fingerprinting, police dogs, the emergency services building and the force fleet.
They also saw the first police car ever used in Wiltshire as well as the very latest state of the art response vehicles.
Mr Harding, from Elma Terrace, said: "It was a really good day out and it was very interesting.
"We started off by doing fingerprints and the children found out how to take finger prints off saucers.
"Then we watched a dog find some TNT explosives and saw the police cars and helicopter and the new call centre.
"The kids had a great time. They liked the dog and gave it a bit of fuss afterwards. They also thrived on the finger printing. I would like to thank everyone for showing us around."
The auction raised about £5,000 for a £30,000 computer room at Cherhill School.
Force operations room supervisor Roy Perrett said: "We are delighted that we are able to help Cherhill School raise vital funds by donating a tour of Devizes Police Headquarters.
"We hope that we have given them an interesting insight into to just a small section of daily police life."
