DEVIZES Development Partnership has invited people to a public consultation meeting on introducing a CCTV system into the town centre.
The meeting at the town hall on November 25 at 7pm, has been called in association with Devizes Town Council, Kennet District Council and Wiltshire Constabulary.
People will have a chance to put forward their views about the need for security cameras in the town centre.
The DDP says it is responding to comments picked up by town centre manager Janet Duffield during discussions on the future of the retail sector with traders.
There has been a spate of broken windows, shoplifting and anti-social behaviour, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. Many traders feel that a CCTV system would act as a deterrent.
DDP chairman Peter Lay has visited other systems in Wootton Bassett and Chippenham. He believes an initial outlay of £250,000 and annual running costs in the region of £30,000 would provide a system with 16 to 18 cameras.
