I recently attended a meeting organised by Kennet District Council concerning new arrangements designed to ensure community involvement in future planning issues.
These arrangements are necessary as a result of the new Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act, which came into force on September 28. The arrangements begin with an introduction into 'regional spatial strategy' set by the Regional Assembly, also known as the Government Office for the South West, based in Exeter. What is the purpose of the assembly and when did we agree to it? Who are the members, what is the process of election and is our district represented? Who funds it and what effect will it have on our elected county council?
