AN emergency scheme training Melksham people to respond to life-threatening situations was launched in the town this week.
The Wiltshire Ambulance Trust Emergency Responder was officially unveiled during the presentation of a £3,000 cheque at the Kings Arms Hotel in High Street.
The money, presented by Ken Jacomb, president of the Melksham Rotary Club, will help the Wiltshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust pay for the unit. The project, which has been supported by the Rotary club in its centenary year, will see Melksham people trained by the NHS Trust to provide an immediate response to life-threatening medical emergencies before the arrival of the ambulance service.
Ambulance spokesman Geoff Todd said: "Volunteers will contribute to improving patient survival in those vital first few minutes after an incident."
