A FORMER Bradford on Avon mayor has died, aged 86. Roy Beresford, known as Nic, died at his Grange View home on Tuesday of a suspected heart attack.
Mr Beresford not only served as mayor in the 1980s but also played an active role in West Wiltshire District Council, the Bradford on Avon Preservation Trust, the Abbeyfield Society, and was a former governor of Fitzmaurice School.
Annette Seekings, a friend and neighbour who had known Mr Beresford for 40 years, said: "Nic was very active in the town. He was a very quiet and caring person who got on with things and contributed to the public good. He was greatly valued."
Bradford mayor Vicky Landell Mills said: "He was very committed to helping the town."
