REPAIRS to Hercules C130 aircraft could be carried out even faster thanks to new initiatives already underway at RAF Lyneham.
According to the Defence Logistics Transformation Programme being rolled out across the MoD around five days can be shaved off the time it takes to carry out scheduled services on the rugged transport planes.
The team from the DLTP aims to release one additional aircraft from maintenance back to front line duties.
To sort out problems, the base now had a rapid response truck. Crews radio ahead to let the base know what repairs are needed.
By the time the aircraft lands the truck will be waiting with the technicians, spares and equipment on board to repair the aircraft.
Wing Commander Kev Groves, who is in charge of 24 Squadron at the base said: "It's a welcome sight to have the support team ready and waiting to fix the aircraft as we taxi in."
The base is home to 50 Hercules planes which are used to transport troops and equipment across the world.
