73149-23GOLFER Tiny Spires faced another type of water hazard when he swam 331 lengths of a pool.
He needed a stroke of different kind yesterday to complete a fundraising swim in two hours and 13 minutes.
Mr Spires, captain of the Wiltshire Golf Club in Wootton Bassett, decided to take up the challenge for Macmillan Cancer Relief his chosen charity.
And the 57-year-old expects that by swimming the equivalent 3.7 mile length of the golf course in the club's pool, he will push fundraising efforts well over the £7,000 mark.
A cheque was due to be handed over to the charity tonight.
"It went really well but my limbs are sore and I had cramp towards the end," said Mr Spires.
"Everyone at the club has been excellent. All the members have been extremely generous.
"Some golfers visited the golf course today and donated £10 each because I completed it in less than two and a half hours."
The sponsored swim helped mark the end of Mr Spires' captaincy, which will be handed to Steve Mitchell tomorrow.
(Sunday).
