CHIPPENHAM'S promotion hopes took a major hit as they were shocked 23-5 at home by Windsor in South West Two East.

Windsor were without a win from their six league games as they arrived at Allington Field but they set the tone with their attacking rugby and ran out comfortable winners.

Chippenham found themselves on the back foot and having to defend for long periods of the first half.

And by half-time they were 13 points behind and it could have been more if Louis Adler, the Windsor scrum-half and kicker had more luck with the boot.

Windsor's first points were a penalty after 15 minutes and this was doubled just on the half-hour.

Their first try came after Chippenham's Alex Ferraday was caught in possession.

The clearance was not good enough and Windsor flanker Martin Gosling eventually went over to score the try with Adler adding the conversion.

Chippenham made a couple of changes Scott Sherrattt and Jon Whiteman replacing Hamish Morton and Graham Treen.

But even with these, they could not find any kind of rhythm and some indiscipline saw skipper Kevin Thornton sent to the sin-bin.

From the restart an early injury worry to John Gibbon saw him leave the field with a shoulder injury and replacement Joe Alford came on.

Chippenham then enjoyed a short spell of dominance, but the visitors were able to soak up any kind of pressure and clear their lines.

Adler added another penalty to increase the lead and Windsor's second try came from their centre James Archibald.

The conversion was added and Chippenham's injury list increased when winger Darren McMillan limped off.

Their only points of the match came from front row player John Angell.

On a rare incursion into the Windsor half, Chippenham drove forward with Angell picking up and going over the line to score.
