RENE REGIS scored a late winner to give leaders Chippenham Town a 3-2 victory over King's Lynn in Norfolk.

It was the Bluebirds' sixth away win of the season in the Southern League Premier Division.

The win and nature of the preformance pleased manager Steve White who said: "All-in-all it was a pleasing away success.

"It was Tommy Taylor's first game in charge and the crowd were very intimidating.

"You expect a side to lift themselves with a new manager so it was a fantastic three points.

"We have played well away this season but our home form has been rather Jekyll and Hyde.

"Now we have given ourselves every chance to capitalise on the great start to the season.'

King's Lynn took the lead in the 34th minute when Carl Holmes headed home a Craig Fishlock corner.

Three minutes before the break Chippenham beat the offside trap and Scott Walker slotted the ball into the net.

Bluebirds were ahead on the hour as Regis crossed and Martin Paul passed to James Constable who netted at the far post.

The hosts rallied and drew level through substitute Lee Stevenson.

They upped the pace but the Bluebirds held firm with keeper Mark Hervin making a couple of saves.

On 77 minutes Regis tapped in the winner after Paul and Walker combined.

"It was a good end to end game," said White.

"They came at us but we were good value for the draw at half-time. We create a couple of good opportunities.

"I thought Martin Paul played well and was back to his sharpest.

"We let them in for an equaliser and they applied plenty of pressure but we came back to win."

And White added, "They have a big financial budget and are in a false position in the table.

"They were one of the fancied teams to do well so the victory made the long trip home a pleasant one."
