MUMS, who went almost naked for a Swindon Town Football Club calendar, have raised more than £2,000 from its sale.

The calendar, which features 40 mums, whose children are trained at the club's Centre of Excellence, sold like hot cakes to Swindon fans at the match against Torquay on Saturday.

The £5 glossy calendar features the mums in a number of cheeky football poses, as well as alongside STFC celebrities including player Sam Parkin, and mascot Rockin' Robin.

Brainchild of the scheme was Pam Thomp-son, 46, from Westbury, whose two sons, Nathan, 13 and Lewis, nine attend the centre.

She came up with the idea and set up the Calendar Mums' committee.

Fellow committee member, Jacki Barnwell, 42, from Marlborough, whose son, Joey, 10, attends the Centre of Excellence said: "It has been rather like the Calendar Girls, and Pam Thompson, was our Helen Mirren, getting it all going."

"The sales have been amazing.

"We were selling before the match, during half-time and after the games too, and they have gone down really well, particularly amongst the 20 to 30 year-old fans.

"There were no negative comments. It's all in good taste."

The mums took part in the photo shoot at Swindon Town's training ground, where a professional magazine photographer Ian Parry took the pictures.

Almost every page in the calendar has been sponsored by a local company.

"Everyone has been so supportive.

"Husbands and partners were really happy that their wives and girlfriends were taking part. One of them even drove the mum up here to take part.

"I think most of the men are proud of their partners taking part, because they can take the calendar into work to show their friends and colleagues."

"The children have been really pleased with the idea too.

"One or two might be embarrassed but when they are well-paid footballers, maybe they'll share some of their wages to say thanks."

The calendar is also going on sale in the Swindon Town Football Club supporters' shop next to the County Ground and the mums are also planning another visit to the County Ground to sell the calendar at the next match.

Jacki said: "It has worked fantastically, but I think next year, we'll have to do a dads' calendar."
