Ref. 73170-108SWINDONIANS were given a cut, brush and blow dry at the weekend to raise money for charity.

Dozens took part in a charity cut-a-thon at the Harmony Hair and Nails at Braydon Court in Penhill.

Stylists, Kathy Breski, 34, and Claire George, 32, worked the 25 hours from 9am on Saturday to 9am on Sunday to raise money for the Breast Cancer Campaign.

Kathy said: "It's been going really well. A lot of people have been giving more than the £3 donation. It's hard work cutting people's hair throughout the day.

"We didn't realise when we first organised the event that it would coincide with the clocks going back so we have to work 25 hours instead of 24."

Despite the charity day, work had to go on as normal, as Kathy and Claire also had to look after two brides.

But in a more fun side to the day the two stylists had to wax the chests of four men.

"It was painful for them almost as bad as childbirth for women," said Kathy.

They hope to raise around £1,000 for the charity.

"We have never done anything like this before," said Kathy.

"We had talked about doing a charity event, and thought the cut-a-thon was the best way forward and we both know people who have been affected by cancer, so we decided to do our bit.

"Everyone around here has been so supportive. One lady even made us some wonderful bacon sandwiches which went down a treat."

The Breast Cancer Campaign is a charity funding research into breast cancer to find ways of diagnosing and preventing the illness.
