ANIMAL rescuers want sponsorship to ensure their £600,000 dream to build a modern care home becomes a reality.

John and Deana War-wick, who run Swindon and District Animal Haven, say they want to build a care home to meet the demand for their service.

They want plans to include a cattery, wildlife hospital, kennels and visitors' centre.

They are hoping to secure a deal with local companies to help finance it.

"We're trying to get the backing to build what we need," said Mr Warwick, 42.

"We are hoping to get plans drawn up before Christmas because we hope it will all be done by next summer." The couple have been running the haven's 20-acre site at Warwick Farm, near Wootton Bassett, for seven years.

"Before we knew it we were a sanctuary," said Mr Warwick.

"Now, the centre is home to a whole range of animals, including domestic pets like cats and dogs."

About 1,400 animals a year are taken in.

In the last 12 months more than 50 neglected or abused animals have gone into their care.

And RSPCA figures show that demand is likely to increase. Between 2002 and 2003, the number of rescue cases in the south and south west rose from 2,009 to 2,168.
