Missing a handful of key players, Wootton Bassett Colts' unbeaten start to the season came to an end with a three-try 25-10 home defeat by Oakmedians.

The vistors, unlike Bassett, looked composed throughout and snapped up points each time a chance presented itself.

However, the home side started well, a cheeky move between talented hooker Peter Stickler and prop Sean Davies seeing the tighthead over in the corner.

Oakmedians defended bravely as the Bassett pack, with second row Martin Toon outstanding, turned down a number of penalty chances and continued to pound the visitors' line.

However, on their first visit into Bassett's half, an unfortunate fumble occurred and the visitors were under the posts.

The stunned home side were hit again moments later when another kick ricocheted twice in midfield and fell fortunately for their opponents.

Oakmedians, owing much to their brave defending, were full value for their 14-5 half-time lead.

But Bassett missed a golden chance to cut the gap just before the break as they blew a three-on-one overlap.

A further Oakmedians penalty stretched their advantage, before Bassett captain Tyler Barnes took control of a driving maul and scored to give the home side some hope.

But to typify a frustrating match for the home side, directly from the restart the ball once again was spilled, resulting in another converted try for the visitors.

n Bassett Under 15s secured their second Wiltshire Cup win of the season with a thumping 710 home victory over Trowbridge.
