SWINDON Town Ladies progressed through to the second round of the Women's FA Cup when they faced Bath City at Saltford and won 4-0.

The Town kicked off and quickly got into their stride, and Catherine Reid soon had the City keeper Gemma Picton in action. Bath began to settle and Lia Painter went close for the home side.

Play flowed from end to end as both sides tried to break the deadlock. Kim Reeves won possession in midfield to find Michelle Brown free on the left, but with the keeper beaten her shot rebounded to safety off the City cross bar.

City began to have a good spell and Town keeper Jodi Steenaart did well to hold Samantha Witt's low shot. Laura Morgan made a good run through the City defence but her rising shot was pushed over the bar by Picton.

In the 42nd minute the Town took the lead. Morgan cut in from the left and her cross was driven low into the net by Claire Moreton. City hit straight back but a timely Sam Quinn tackle broke up the attack.

City restarted the game playing down the slope, and Diane George did well to head clear Samantha Witt's cross with Painter closing in.

In the 57th minute the Town increased their lead when Rich played a neat ball forward to Reid, who coolly beat the advancing keeper.

City were awarded a free kick 20 yards out and Nicky O'Connell's kick was met by Sophie Hamer, but her shot was too high.

O'Connell again caused problems in the Town's defence when she put Laura Gregory clear but Moreton chased back to block the shot.

In the 67th minute the Town got a third when Brown played the ball out wide to Morgan, whose cross was tucked into the net from close range by Reid.

The Town were now in control and a long Tara Loft's throw put Reid clear but her shot flew past the far post with keeper beaten.

The hard-working Morgan cut in from the Town's left to find Holly Burton, whose effort was pushed out by Picton.

In the 88th minute Reeves capped a good afternoon's performance when her 25-yard shot dropped just under the bar to take the Town's tally to four.

The win earned the Town a home tie against Clevedon Town in round two.

Wyvern Staff Agency Player of the Match was Kim Reeves.

TOWN Reserves entertained Devizes Town in the Wiltshire County League and won 5-2. April Polden scored twice, and there were goals for Pam Ashman, Lisa Coe and Chantelle Lovell.
