RETURNING home from the big match on Saturdays could be dangerous to motorists' health especially if their team has lost.
More car users are killed or seriously injured in the three hours between 5pm and 8pm on Saturdays than in the same time period on any other day of the week.
The only time of the week even more dangerous to car users is between 4pm and 7pm on Fridays.
According to the RAC Foundation, factors that contribute to the Saturday nightmare include a variety of things.
They could include inattention, fatigue and alcohol all elements frequently encountered by sports fans after a match.
And it's not just sports fans at risk either.
Shoppers returning home after a tiring trek around the stores may be thinking more about their purchases than the road conditions.
Those who work on Saturdays are also at risk.
Edmund King, executive director of the RAC Foundation, said: "The excitement of the game may leave the individual in a winner or a loser mood neither of these mix well with driving and these feelings can be heightened by alcohol."
