Forget "Handy Andy" the new generation of DIY-ers is dominated by "Handy Mandies" as women increasingly take on the traditional male household jobs.
Six out of ten young British women have so little confidence in their partner's DIY skills that they have been forced to take on many household jobs themselves, the research claims.
And a quarter have banned their partners from doing any DIY, according to a survey from Direct Line Home Response 24.
Two thirds have taken on the painting and decorating and more than half will get out the drill and put up shelves or rewire a plug.
Almost three quarters will put together flat pack furniture, without any help.
And just one in five of those who don't live with their partner would trust their man to do even the simplest DIY.
