Pete Townsend, fishing under the Isis AC banner, walked off with the honours in Sunday's Angling Times Winter League (Upper Thames Division) with an impressive 37lb 7oz catch.
At the same time, he landed the Browning Star angler-of-the-week award from the Angling Times, winning several tackle prizes.
The canal fished extremely well with 571lb of fish being taken by the 120 anglers an average of 43/4lb per man.
Townsend's haul was made up of skimmers (bream) up to 2lb, which were taken using a long-pole, groundbait and maggot in the Savernake Hotel section.
The skimmers showed up well, and featured in all the top catches.
Swindon Angling Centre's Sean Matthews followed in second place, and using similar tactics to the winner he landed a total of 17-14-8.
Third was Kevin Abigail (Devizes AC) and fourth was Mark Howes (Talisman) 15-9-0.
