TWO former members of RAF Lyneham's Defence Force have raised £250 in a 75-mile charity walk.
Cliff Evans and John Roche took three days to complete the walk between the RAF bases at High Wycombe and Lyneham.
It marked the 10th anniversary of the Defence Force disbandment in 1994 and the 80th anniversary of the Royal Auxillary Air Force.
The money raised will be shared between the Royal Air Forces Association Wings Appeal and the Royal Auxillary Air Force's Memorial Fund.
When the defence force was operational at Lyneham it involved up to 100 local volunteer reservists at the base.
Their role was to defend the base with combat patrols, and had fire and rescue abilities.
They helped Lyneham to achieve high scores in two tactical evaluation exercises and were awarded the Robins Trophy as the outstanding RauxAF unit in 1993.
"We are grateful to everyone who supported our little effort which we hope reminded people of the value of the RauxAF in its 80th year," said John Roche.
Several former members of the Defence Force currently serve number 4626 Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron of the RauxAF base at Lyneham.
