WALKERS in Wiltshire can look forward to stepping foot on previously forbidden paths later this month.
It comes as a result of the new Countryside and Rights of Act 2000.
The long-awaited legislation first proposed 120 years ago will see areas including parts of Pewsey Vale, Spring Hill, Burderop Park and Smeathe's Ridge open to the public.
The north-east Wiltshire branch of the Ramblers' Association is planning its first such walk on January 17.
The gentle trek will take in the picturesque Tidcombe Downs.
Swindon-based spokeswoman Pat Crabb said: "We're really looking forward to this one. The views will be magnificent a real gem."
Meanwhile, a booklet featuring a selection of nine country walks in Wiltshire is now on sale.
It originally appeared more than 20 years ago.
Sadly the person who devised it to raise funds for the Ramblers' Association died some years ago.
But the northeast Wiltshire branch of the organisation has now produced an updated version.
It comes with clear sketches and photographs of familiar landmarks.
The booklet priced £2 can be bought from the Information Centre in Regent Street.
