DARREN ROBISON ensured Cirencester Town made a perfect start to the new year with the only goal in the local derby win over Gloucester City.

The only goal of the game came on 67 minutes as Shaun Wimble's cross was only half-cleared back to him and he fired in a telling low cross that Robison managed to get a foot to and deceive goalkeeper Matt Bath at the near post.

Boss Brian Hughes admitted "It wasn't the greatest of spectacles. But I will settle for the one goal and three points.

"Conditions were horrendous and spoilt the game but both sides did well under the circumstances. I thought it was going to be 0-0 but we came through to make it four wins in a row."

Cirencester's resolute defending against the elements in the first half laid the foundations for maximum points in the second.

The win saw them rise to seventh in the table and just one point behind second placed Histon.

Gloucester, kicking with the wind, tested home keeper Mark Bryant with powerful shots in the first half.

But Cirencester were soon on the attack in the second half with the strong wind in their favour.

Nick Stanley's low shot was well saved by Bath and Wimble was only inches wide of the target.

The hosts continued to push forward for another goal after Robison's strike but keeper Bath was their equal.

And at the other end, Gloucester mounted a couple of quick breaks and Bryant had to come quickly off his line twice to deny Addis.

Hughes added: " We have a difficult game (today) at Rugby. Everyone came through the Gloucester game and is available to play.

"If we can get something from the Rugby game, it will set us up nicely for January."
