SUPERMARINE bounced back from their 4-0 New Year's Day drubbing by Clevedon to grab a welcome 1-0 victory at Thame United in Division One West.

Former Swindon Town striker Mark Draycott netted the winner on 74 minutes.

The loss to Clevedon was a blip as the defence had kept five clean sheets previously and they restored normal service at Thame.

Supermarine had the better of the first half exchanges and were unfortunate not to go into the break in front.

Steve Davis hit the foot of the post after only five minutes and shortly afterwards Draycott's volley also struck a post.

And then just before half-time Roger Emms rose high at a corner but could only look on in anguish as his header struck the woodwork.

In the second half Marine pressed forward and their battling performance was justifiably rewarded after 74 minutes.

Davis combined with Steve Bennett down the wing. Bennett's cross was met by Draycott who smashed the ball into the net for the winner.

"That was a lot better and we looked far more solid," said a delighted boss Mark Collier.

"We made three or four changes and were back defensively to where we have been.

"The winner came with about a quarter of an hour to go to give us three deserved points.

"It certainly was a happy dresssing room, while I was pleased by the good reaction from the players following the disappointment on Saturday 48 hours is a long time in football."
