CHARITY Age Concern has launched a book to arm family carers with expert information and advice.
Jo Osorio, director of Age Concern Swindon, said most people who care for someone in their own home are not specially trained for the role.
But book Caring for Someone in their Own Home will offer practical tips.
"It is a myth that people in Britain don't look after one another," said Mr Osorio.
"Almost seven million people are believed to be carers and the demand for their work can only increase."
To order a copy of the book, which costs £9.99, phone 0870 4422120.
