Ref. 74427-01ENGLISH football's ultimate prize, the Premiership trophy, was sized up by Swindon shoppers.

The huge cup, which weighs as much as a small child, was put on display at Barclays bank in Regent Street yesterday.

Fans both young and old stood in awe at the trophy, which stands some three feet high and is made of 23-carat sterling silver, gold plate and the precious green stone malachite.

Five-year-old Gemma Edginton said: "It's very shiny but I thought it would be bigger than it really is."

Dad Darren Bishop, 25, took his seven-month-old son Zac along.

He said: "We just popped into the bank. We didn't know it was coming to Swindon.

"It's quite an amazing sight, very impressive but I'm more into boxing. Zac's granddad will love the picture. He's a seasoned Swindon Town fan."

The trophy is visiting several Barclays branches over the next few weeks. While in transit and on display, it is flanked by two security guards who stay with the cup at all times.

Fans could have their photograph taken with the trophy for free but many were urged to make a small donation to the Asian tsunami appeal.
