BRITONS have sent a record 25 billion text messages during 2004, according to latest figures.
The figure is 4.5 billion more than last year and almost double the 12.2 billion texts sent in 2001.
The popularity of sending text messages is set to continue despite the arrival of picture messaging and, more recently, video messages.
The Mobile Data Association, a body which represents the mobile phone industry, predicts the trend is set to continue.
Experts believe the number of text messages sent in the UK will top 30 billion by the end of 2005.
