Ref. 28404-89SWINDON Town FC believes Wiltshire-born jazz sensation Jamie Cullum could be their lucky omen after he was dragged along to a recent match and they enjoyed a stunning victory.
Dad John has been a season ticket holder at the football club for years and took his celebrity son along to watch a home game while he was back home over Christmas.
Jamie took time out before throwing himself into his new CD to watch Swindon secure a 3-0 win against Brentford.
And after the excitement on the pitch, on December 28, the pint-sized pianist signed autographs and posed for pictures with fans and club members.
Jamie, 24, was born in Hullaving-ton and went to Sheldon School in Chippenham to do his A-levels.
But at the same time he was busy honing his performance skills with as many live gigs as possible, including a resident spot at Pizza Express in Old Town.
He has entertained the crowds at venues as diverse as the Great Western Designer Outlet Village and The Apartment and performed a show-stealing set at Swindon's Jazz Festival in 2003.
John, who now lives in Bath with wife Yvonne, said: "I dragged him along to a Swindon Town match while he was home for Christmas.
"It was against Brentford and they won 3-0. Jamie quite likes football, both my kids do, but not as much as me I'm a season ticket holder there.
"Jamie likes to watch live football because he gets such little chance to do it.
"He is doing his new CD at the moment and is buried in the studio. He is locked away doing composing and is not allowed out until he has finished."
John also took Michael Parkinson, one of Jamie's celebrity fans, to a Swindon Town match on March 27 last year.
The veteran chat show host's team Barnsley were playing.
And the result was a diplomatic 1-1 draw.
Mike Sullivan, sales and marketing manager for Swindon Town FC, said: "It was a great pleasure to have Jamie at Swindon Town.
"His father has been an executive club member for many years and we invited him along.
"He posed for photographs and signed many autographs for fans and club members. He did not turn anybody away.
"I think Jamie just appreciated his day at Swindon Town.
"That day we won three-nil to Brentford.
"If our team can play like that again, then Jamie is welcome to come back, he is a lucky omen."
Jamie is among the big names mooted to appear on a charity single for the Asian tsunami victims.
Stars already involved include Cliff Richard, Boy George and opera singer Russell Watson. He is on the roll-call of celebrities asked to join the project.
