GAZETTE & HERALD: YOUTH group Make or Break have sent out their thanks to supporters who have helped them open their own snooker hall.

The youngsters and leaders set out to open the hall in empty offices in Wood Street, equipped with a snooker tables and entertainment for the town's young people.

Now they are just weeks away from an official opening after charities and businesses came forward to help. They are putting the finishing touches to the centre and hope to attract a top ten snooker player to launch it.

Adrianna Harold, joint secretary of the group, said: "We've been given £250 from Calne Rotary Club, £500 from Wiltshire Constabulary and £2,000 from Calne Lions Club.

"We've had loads of backing from local business and people like that. We've been given free stuff such as paints and HM Furniture gave us a carpet. Other people like electricians have given us reduced rates as well."

Chairman Luke Jones, said it was great to see the public helping.

"It's really good because it shows people are taking us seriously. We have now got one of the tables coming in soon and another one's ready to pick up as we speak.

"We are going to have two tables in one of the rooms and an X-box and television in the other. We may see once everything's in whether we can fit in a small pool table as well."

The youngsters, all pupils at John Bentley School, will run the centre and have said it will be a memorial to actor David Hemmings, who lived in the town and supported youth projects.
