A WOMAN conned her way into the home of an pensioner posing as a nurse from Devizes Hospital. Although nothing was stolen, the victim was left distressed.
The woman called at the house in Avon Road shortly after 8pm on Sunday December 19 and the victim invited her in after being told she was a nurse from the hospital.
The intruder asked for a cup of tea and followed the victim into the kitchen. She asked to see her pension book as, she said, she needed to see the number on the front to enter her into a draw at the hospital.
The victim replied that she didn't have the pension book as it was in the care of her daughter. The caller then asked if there were any Christmas presents in the house and the woman grew suspicious and asked her to leave.
The intruder then said she needed the toilet and started to climb the stairs but the pensioner insisted she left.
Devizes police are appealing for anyone with information to call them on (01380) 722141.
