The CCTV imagePOLICE would like to hear from anyone who knows the woman photographed by the security camera in the Merchant's House shop in Marlborough.
The woman entered the shop on December 17 shortly before a handbag belonging to a member of staff was stolen from a room behind the shop.
Credit cards in the bag were later used to buy goods in the Chippenham area. Police say it is possible the thief had connections with the area.
They say they want to speak to the woman in the photograph to see if she can help with their inquiries.
PC Doug Downing from Marlborough police station is handling the inquiry.
He said: "We would like to identify this woman so that we can speak to her and, if necessary, rule her out of our inquiries. We would like to speak to anyone who may have been in the vicinity of the shop that morning."
Any information about the woman should be given to Marlborough police station (01672) 512311 or left on the confidential Crimestoppers line 0800 555111.
