THE heat is on to find a new committee to take over and run Marlborough Carnival. The event is being re-launched at a meeting taking place on Wednesday January 19, 7.30pm in the Crown Hotel in The Parade.

It's hoped that a move back to the original carnival headquarters might engender some new support for the event that was revived 30 years ago but now needs some new blood and inspiration.

Licensee Richard Bailey has welcomed the move and is making a room available.

The Mayor, Graham Francis, is carnival president. He said at the recent AGM: "The committee needs more members, not just to be hands-on but to bring new ideas as much as anything else."

The new committee that will be formed on January 17 will be left with £3,300 to launch the 2005 carnival and pay initial expenses including the road closure order.

Coun Francis said: "The carnival is a very worthwhile event that it would be nice to see more people supporting."

He said any young people wishing to join the committee and help plan events for the younger generation would be welcomed.
