TOWN councillors in Marlborough are calling on Gazette readers to say how they want the town's pigeon problem to be dealt with.
Various means of reducing the size of the feral flock have been suggested, including the provision of a £10,000 loft in the Priory Gardens, where controlled feeding could take place.
Town councillors want to know what the level of objection would be to any proposal to humanely cull some of the birds.
Members of the recreation and amenities committee heard on Monday the pigeons have started nesting on the wire spikes that are meant to keep them off the town hall roof, safe in the knowledge they can't slip off during the night.
The council's technical adviser, architect Malcolm Ward, said much of the £250,000 in repairs carried out on the town hall a year ago was due to damage caused to gutters, woodwork and walls by droppings.
He said another big repair bill could be expected in five years' time unless the pigeon problem was urgently addressed.
Readers are asked to send their views to the town council offices at 5 High Street, Marlborough SN8 1AA by January 24.
