I HAD intended with this letter to thank the people of Devizes and district for their generosity in giving to our Christmas charity collections; the monies used to provide numerous Christmas hampers. Indeed I do.
However, world events have moved rapidly on and with the Indian Ocean tsunami we are faced with one of the most horrendous disasters in recent times.
The response by you, the citizens of Devizes and district, to the Rotary Club's emergency collection in the Market Place last Thursday, for the provision of Aquaboxes far exceeded our expectations, notes frequently more prevalent than coins. We have never before been at the receiving end of such generous giving. Each Aquabox costs £30 this provides the plastic water tank together with a filtration and purification system; with each box able to purify 33,000 litres of water. An amazing total of £4,117.02 was collected, sufficient to provide 137 Aquaboxes.
Thank you for your response. It will make a significant difference to the quality of the lives of the survivors.
P GREED
President
The Rotary Club of Devizes
