A MOTHER from Westbury died from a rare blood disorder just three weeks after giving birth to her first child.
Claire Applegate, 32, contracted HELLP Syndrome following the birth of her son Lewis on December 5.
She died on Boxing Day and a memorial tree planting service is taking place at 11am today at Brokerswood Country Park.
A family statement said: "Claire was an accomplished swimmer and dedicated musician from an early age.
"She was extremely caring and generous in nature and loved animals.
"Her passion for life was her family and she was a loyal and true friend with a vibrant personality and a great sense of humour.
"She will be fondly remembered by those she touched."
HELLP Syndrome is the medical term for one of the most serious complications of pre-eclampsia, a combined liver and blood clotting disorder. Signs and symptoms include high blood pressure, protein in the urine and swelling of hands, feet or face, pain below the ribs, vomiting and headaches.
The condition is thought to occur in one in every 150 live births and has a maternal mortality rate of 3.5 per cent.
Mrs Applegate leaves Lewis and her husband Gary.
